Non-Cash Donations

Non-cash donations to a church, often called “in-kind” gifts or complex gifts, are contributions of assets, goods, or property rather than money. These donations allow donors to support ministry through items like appreciated stocks, real estate, vehicles, or equipment, often providing significant tax advantages by avoiding capital gains taxes on appreciated assets.
Common Types of Non-Cash Donations:
  • Securities: Stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.
  • Physical Goods/Assets: Vehicles, laptops, audio equipment, furniture, books, and tools.
  • Real Estate: Land, houses, or buildings.
  • Other Assets: Cryptocurrency, art, jewelry, and collectibles.
  • Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs): Charitable investment accounts.
